Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)

Employed by Southern Cross Care
Inspired by his cousin, a nurse specialising in paediatrics, and his personal experiences during a hospital stay some years ago, Kuvam is building a career in the health and community care sector.
Employed by aged care provider, Southern Cross Care, following his work placement with the organisation, Kuvam hopes to become a paediatric nurse in the future.
“I secured a part time job working the night shift seven days per fortnight. It was an opportunity I did not want to miss out on, as it allowed me to continue working in a health-related sector, while intending to pursue my long-term goal of studying nursing” says Kuvam. “This year, I have taken a gap year to establish a sustainable work routine so that I can balance both future work and study.”
“Since Year 8, my goal has been to study nursing. When a family friend mentioned doing a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), I grasped the opportunity so I could gain hands on experience and develop news skills while learning about this aspect of nursing.”
He highlights the significant impact that nurses at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital had on him when dealing with childhood health concerns, recalling their kindness and care as the motivators behind his desire to follow a career pathway in nursing.
“I also had the great honour of working with the Smith Family for a brief time. Whilst working with the Smith Family, I had the task of calling up students and younger children and speaking to them over the phone, talking to them and helping them to read and learn,” says Kuvam. “It was an incredibly rewarding experience.”
