Diploma of Leadership and Management
Trained by ASC Training and Development
Employed by Department for Child Protection
“At the age of five, I was asked the common question – ‘what do you want to be when you grow older?’. But my response was far from common,” says Mia-Tari. “Where other children were set to be firemen, police officers and/or doctors, I was adamant that I wanted to be Mother Teresa.”
Life experiences would indicate that it didn’t quite work out exactly as she had planned, but Mother Teresa’s legacy certainly had an impact on the free spirited, ambitious five-year-old Mia-Tari, who has since completed a Bachelor of Social Work and spent more than 12 years working for the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
“It has been a challenging, yet rewarding journey,” she says. “I enjoy the challenge of managing a demanding job and then going home to my family. I love the idea that I’m able to role model to my children, particularly my daughter, that you can be both successful in your career and in your family life too.”
Mia-Tari, who enjoys seeking out new experiences and opportunities, believes she is on a lifelong journey of learning. She says that, through her Diploma of Leadership and Management, she has gained a significant amount of knowledge, as well as skills and strategies to assist her in her current and future leadership roles within DCP.
“I commenced the Diploma passionate about my own professional growth, but I have finished with an even greater passion for the learning and growth of others in the workplace,” she says.
“I look forward to continuing my learning journey – constantly reflecting on where I started and what has contributed to my success to support myself and others on the pathway of professional and personal growth.”
