Tayla Standley

Certificate III in Business

Trained by TAFE SA

Employed by My Tax Accountant

When Tayla finished high school, she felt she had the world at her feet – but little idea of where to go. So, when the opportunity to undertake a one-year clerical processing traineeship presented itself, she was all in.

“It was the perfect chance to do a short course and gain experience, without uprooting my life,” she says.

Nearing the ending of her traineeship, Tayla considered further education in a range of fields, ultimately accepting an offer to earn while she learnt through a position with an accounting firm.

“The position was offered to me with the option to study while working, and that was extremely appealing,” she says. “Initially, I was fearful that my lack of industry knowledge would create challenges for me, however, I believe I’ve settled in and adapted quickly. My employment started in February and I have learnt so much and acquired so many new skills.”

Tayla recently applied to study a Bachelor of Commerce to become a CPA accountant, also has plans to undertake a Certificate III in Government with TAFE SA.

“I have worked tirelessly to get to where I am today, constantly going that extra mile and striving to be and do my best,” she says. “That was highlighted most significantly in my secondary schooling, when I was fortunate enough to receive the DUX of Year 12, the Australian Defence Force 2019 Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award, and many other prestigious awards – all while upholding the role of School Captain and receiving an ATAR of 94.45.”

“I consider myself to be independent and self-driven, but I wouldn't be where I am today without the support of two strong and empowering women in my life – my Mum and a past teacher, who is now a friend.”
