    South Australia’s economic engine room

    Every day, around 150,000 small and family businesses in South Australia deliver products and services throughout the state, the nation and the world.

    Representing 98 per cent of all businesses in the state, they employ more than 300,000 South Australians, and contributed more than $49 billion to our economy in 2021-2022.

    Small and family businesses are the driving force of South Australia’s economy. They create jobs and support workers, they invest and innovate, they take risks and adapt, and they are a binding force for our local community, reflecting the evolving nature and diversity of our state.

    South Australia's opportunity

    South Australia’s Economic Statement proposes an economy that is smart, sustainable, and inclusive.

    We have the opportunity to create a smarter and more inclusive business sector for South Australia, to give our small and family businesses the tools to grow, innovate and take advantage of new market opportunities.

    That’s why we have developed a Small Business Strategy for South Australia. The Strategy aims to increase the capability and the productivity of small and family businesses across the state, ensure our business environment is supportive, and interactions with government are simple and streamlined to allow businesses to focus more of their time and resources on growing.

    South Australia's Small Business Strategy 2023 - 2030

    South Australia’s Small Business Strategy 2023-2030 is designed to support small businesses to adapt, grow and succeed, now and into the future.

    The strategy outlines how the government’s policies and programs will support and empower South Australia's 150,000 small businesses and their owners to reach new heights.

    The Office for Small and Family Business

    The Office for Small and Family Business was established in 2022 to support businesses to start, grow and succeed, and to connect businesses to the array of government services.

    The team are here to support small and family businesses in South Australia access SA Government services, supports and programs, provide a wide range of tools and resources, coordinate small business capability development programs and more.
